President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. remains firm in his opposition to impeachment efforts against Vice President Sara Duterte, according to Malacañang.

“The President’s position on the impeachment move in the HoR (House of Representatives) has not changed,” said Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Marcos’ View on Impeachment

Marcos previously emphasized that an impeachment process would only divert time and resources from addressing the needs of Filipinos.
“If somebody files an impeachment, it will tie down the House, it will tie down the Senate. It will just take up all our time, for what? None of this will help improve a single Filipino life. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a storm in a teacup,” Marcos said.

Iglesia Ni Cristo Rally

The National Rally for Peace, organized by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), drew 1.8 million attendees nationwide on January 13, 2025. While the event was seen as supporting Marcos’ stance against Duterte’s impeachment, INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala described the rally as a moral initiative, not a political one.

Prominent politicians attended the rally in Manila, including Senators Francis Tolentino, Ronald dela Rosa, Robin Padilla, and Bong Go, alongside other public figures such as SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, and former Manila mayor Isko Moreno.

Duterte’s Response

Vice President Duterte, who is currently facing three impeachment complaints related to alleged misuse of public funds, expressed gratitude to INC for organizing the event, calling it a “powerful show of unity and faith.”
