President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has set an August deadline for the opening of Marawi General Hospital, urging contractors and government agencies to fast-track the project to begin serving the public as soon as possible.

During his visit to Lanao del Sur, Marcos inspected the hospital and other local facilities, expressing satisfaction with the ongoing progress. The facility, which has a 100-bed capacity, already has a stable power supply but still needs a standby generator to comply with Department of Health requirements and ensure uninterrupted operations during power outages.

On the hospital’s water supply, Marcos said coordination with the Department of National Defense is ongoing since the water system is located within a DND camp.

“I’m pleased to see progress after such a long time,” he told reporters.

He also noted the involvement of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in funding and accelerating the city’s reconstruction—something he said was lacking in the past.

The hospital is part of a broader recovery effort following the 2017 Marawi siege. To ensure continuity and speed in rebuilding efforts, Marcos created the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and Development (OPAMRD) in December 2024. The office oversees planning, funding, and coordination of projects aimed at restoring peace and rebuilding the city.

Marawi suffered extensive damage during the five-month conflict with the Maute Group, with liberation declared by former President Rodrigo Duterte in October 2017.
