President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. underscored the importance of adapting to the evolving threat of terrorism, particularly its growing reliance on technology, during the 33rd regular meeting of the Anti-Terrorism Council on Wednesday.

“Terrorism, fueled by advancing technology and shifting tactics, demands a response that blends strength with humanity, vigilance with compassion, and strategy with foresight,” Marcos said.

He emphasized the need for continued investment in initiatives that combine decisive action with inclusive strategies to build lasting peace.

Achievements in Counter-Terrorism

Marcos commended the Anti-Terrorism Council for making significant strides in dismantling terrorist organizations and bolstering national security. He highlighted the freezing of terrorist-linked assets and successful prosecutions as key achievements, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to the rule of law and justice.

“These measures not only protect our communities but also reaffirm our dedication to accountability, justice, and peace,” he said.

Empowering Local Leaders and Youth Engagement

The President called for empowering local leaders and fostering youth participation through open dialogue, describing these efforts as essential to creating a safer and more unified Philippines.

“These initiatives plant seeds of hope and resilience, ensuring every Filipino can experience and enjoy the benefits of peace,” Marcos noted.

Global Cooperation Against Terrorism

Marcos also highlighted the Philippines’ proactive stance on global counter-terrorism efforts. Strengthening partnerships with international allies, the United Nations, and regional organizations has boosted the country’s ability to address transnational threats effectively.

“With these strengthened ties, we are elevating our collective capabilities to confront terrorism on a global scale,” he said.
