Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. extended his congratulations to United States President Donald Trump following his inauguration, expressing eagerness to collaborate with the Republican leader’s administration.
“Congratulations to POTUS @realdonaldtrump and to the American people on another peaceful transfer of power in their nation’s nearly 250-year history,” Marcos said in a statement.
“I look forward to working closely with you and your Administration. The strong and lasting PH-US alliance will continue to uphold our shared vision of prosperity and security in the region,” he added.
A Triumphant Return
Trump’s swearing-in on Monday marked a political comeback after surviving two impeachments, a felony conviction, two assassination attempts, and an indictment related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Marcos emphasized his hope to address a range of issues that would bring mutual benefits to the two nations, citing their deep ties, shared beliefs, and long-standing history of collaboration.
Strengthening Alliances
The US is a long-standing ally of the Philippines, particularly in maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Marcos expressed confidence that the strong partnership between the two countries would continue to advance their shared goals.
