Legazpi City, Albay — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on government agencies to prioritize durability in materials used for infrastructure projects, aiming to bolster resilience against increasingly severe tropical cyclones. Speaking during a visit to Legazpi City, Marcos directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and other agencies to ensure the quality and durability of construction materials for long-lasting infrastructure.
“We know that storms are becoming more intense, and the damage they bring is growing,” Marcos said. “That’s why we are implementing modern designs for our roads and bridges to withstand these changes.”
In response to the recent Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, the Office of the President (OP), through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), allocated PHP 50 million in financial aid to Albay. Additionally, Marcos personally distributed PHP 10,000 each to 36 beneficiaries from the province’s cities and municipalities affected by the storm.
