President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to ensure timely budget allocations for the agriculture sector, emphasizing the importance of aligning support with the planting season.
In a meeting, Marcos, who previously held the position of Agriculture Secretary, stressed the critical need for prompt budgetary action.
“Be mindful of the planting season. We should not be left behind. That’s why timely budgetary support is essential,” Marcos said.
Additionally, the President tasked the Department of Agriculture (DA) to expedite the delivery of aid to farmers to avoid disruptions during the planting season.
“There should be no significant delays in providing agricultural support to farmers,” Marcos added.
Boosting Productivity and Rural Economies
The DA underscored the importance of adequate resources, including fertilizers, quality seeds, and modern technologies, in boosting farmers’ productivity. Proper support ensures timely planting and optimized harvests, preventing delays in seed and fertilizer distribution.
“Increased rice production not only enhances food security but also generates jobs across the value chain—benefiting farm laborers, transporters, millers, and traders—stimulating rural economies,” the DA stated.
This initiative aligns with the government’s goal to bolster agricultural output and support rural livelihoods through effective planning and resource allocation.
