More than 150 Filipinos have reached out for assistance after losing their homes in the devastating wildfires sweeping through southern California, according to Consul General Adelito Angelito Cruz.

The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles is coordinating with the Filipino Workers Center to address the affected individuals’ immediate needs.

“Many are requesting temporary housing assistance. We are working to ensure they are accommodated in the evacuation centers set up by LA County. We’re confident that all of them will receive temporary shelter,” Cruz said.

Relief Efforts and Ongoing Support

Cruz assured that evacuees in California have access to essential resources, including food, water, and other necessities, through established evacuation centers.

The wildfires have claimed at least 24 lives, forced the evacuation of 100,000 residents, and destroyed over 12,000 structures, including properties owned by high-profile individuals.

Firefighters from seven U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico have been deployed to Los Angeles to combat the massive blaze.

The Philippine Consulate is actively assisting Filipino citizens and dual citizens affected by the disaster while continuing its regular operations despite the challenges posed by the wildfires.

Message from President Marcos

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed his sympathies to the affected Filipinos, underscoring the government’s concern for their welfare.

The consulate reaffirmed its commitment to helping Filipino nationals navigate this difficult time, ensuring they receive the support they need.
