Maris Racal has broken her silence regarding the controversy involving her and Anthony Jennings, taking full accountability for her actions.

In a video statement released by ABS-CBN News, the actress expressed her remorse, saying, “Nagkamali ako, and I wanna say sorry for everything that I have done.”

A Dark Time and Vulnerability

Maris shared that the situation began in June when she was in a “dark place.” She admitted to developing feelings for Anthony during this period and allowing her emotions to take over.

“I knew that was wrong,” she confessed, adding that she immediately came clean to her then-partner, Rico Blanco, which ultimately led to their breakup.

Misunderstandings and a Lack of Clarity

According to Maris, Anthony assured her he was single, telling the same to their colleagues on set. However, she was unaware that he was still in a relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Jamela Villanueva.

“God knows I asked him, ‘Nagkabalikan ba kayo?’ He said no,” Maris explained.

Despite repeatedly urging Anthony to publicly confirm his breakup with Jamela, he only did so last week. Reflecting on the delay, Maris said, “Kaya pala di siya makapag-release ng statement dahil sila pa pala this whole entire time. I didn’t know. I was in the dark.”

Viral Screenshots and Public Embarrassment

The controversy gained traction after Jamela shared screenshots of her conversations with Anthony, exposing his alleged infidelity. Maris admitted feeling “truly, truly embarrassed” that the private messages were made public without her consent.

Maris acknowledged Jamela’s perspective, saying, “That’s her side of the story, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But this is my side.”

Professional Collaboration Amid Controversy

Maris and Anthony previously gained attention for their pairing as Irene and Snoop in the series Can’t Buy Me Love. They are set to appear in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival movie And the Breadwinner Is… alongside Vice Ganda.
