MANILA, Philippines – Maverick Ahanmisi, a well-known personality in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), has recently emerged as a local TikTok sensation. His venture into the social media platform began as a personal outlet during a challenging phase of his professional basketball career.

Ahanmisi, born in America to Filipino-Nigerian parents, has been showcasing aspects of his daily life and personality on TikTok. His content includes a variety of elements – from his regular routine at home and practice sessions, engaging in lighthearted dances, reacting to memes, to answering queries from his PBA fans. This diverse content has not only entertained but also connected him more intimately with his audience.

Impressively, despite his upbringing in the United States, Ahanmisi has captivated his followers with his fluent Tagalog, a skill he has polished since moving to the Philippines in 2014.

The basketball star opened up about his mental health struggles while playing for Alaska in the PBA, describing TikTok as a significant outlet that brought him happiness and mental relief. His engaging presence on the platform has garnered widespread attention, leading to a surge in popularity.

Ahanmisi’s PBA career began with the Rain or Shine Elastopainters in 2015. Following a trade to Alaska, he experienced several seasons, including those affected by the pandemic. With Alaska’s departure from the league in 2022, he joined the new franchise, Converge, where he achieved new career heights under coach Aldin Ayo. Eventually, Ahanmisi opted for free agency, signing with the fan-favorite Ginebra team.

In response to mixed comments and pressures from fans and critics on his TikTok page, Ahanmisi maintains a positive attitude. He views the diverse range of opinions as a motivating factor, emphasizing the resilience required to be a successful PBA player.

In his debut game for Ginebra, Ahanmisi displayed his skills impressively, contributing significantly to the team’s performance. However, with his initial games not showcasing his full potential, teammates like Tony Bishop and Christian Standhardinger stepped up, scoring high points and rebounds, highlighting the team’s depth and collaborative strength.
