CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Alyssa Valdez, a prominent figure in the Philippine volleyball scene, recently led Creamline to a decisive victory in the Premier Volleyball League’s 2023 second All-Filipino Conference. Playing in front of an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 10,000 at the Aquilino Q. Pimentel International Convention Center, Valdez was instrumental in maintaining Creamline’s undefeated streak, now extending to seven games.
Valdez demonstrated remarkable skill and versatility, contributing 13 points and 10 excellent receptions in Creamline’s straight-set win (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) over PLDT. This victory not only highlighted her athletic prowess but also edged Creamline closer to securing a spot in the semifinals.
Despite reduced playing time in earlier matches, Valdez’s performance in Cagayan de Oro, also known as the City of Golden Friendship, was nothing short of spectacular. Her patience and adaptability to her evolving role on the team were key factors in this significant win.
Valdez, a three-time PVL Most Valuable Player, expressed her gratitude to the fans who traveled to support the team, acknowledging the challenges teams face with frequent travel and training. Her appreciation for the fans’ enthusiasm was evident, and she considered the win a major confidence boost for the upcoming games.
Complementing Valdez’s performance, Jema Galanza added 12 points, five digs, and five receptions. Michele Gumabao contributed 10 points, while setter Kyle Negrito provided 15 excellent sets and scored six points. Tots Carlos and Bernadeth Pons, though having limited play, were part of the team’s strategic depth.
Creamline’s coach, Sherwin Meneses, commended the team’s performance, especially noting Valdez’s leadership skills. Meneses emphasized the significance of securing the win in three sets, especially as the team inches closer to a semifinal berth.
On the other hand, PLDT faced its second consecutive defeat, with Savannah Davison leading their effort with 14 points and 17 excellent receptions. Erika Santos also contributed 11 points in the loss.
