
Early Thursday morning, Mount Kanlaon on Negros Island startled nearby communities by releasing ash in two separate events within a three-hour period.
The first ash emission was detected at 5:30 a.m., lasting until about 7:29 a.m.. The second event followed at around 9:20 a.m. and continued until 10:54 a.m..
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), both plumes reached approximately 300 meters above the volcano’s summit.
Currently, the volcano is under Alert Level 2, which indicates a state of increased unrest and the possibility of further ash emissions or even more explosive activity.
Residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution, follow local authority instructions, and avoid entering the volcano’s Permanent Danger Zone.
