The New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) has announced a major initiative to remove 27 long-abandoned aircraft from the general aviation area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

In a statement released Saturday, NNIC said some of the aircraft have remained idle for over a decade—among them, a Cessna 421B unused since 2009 and a Boeing 737-200 inactive since 2015. These derelict aircraft are limiting operational efficiency and obstructing smoother airside traffic, according to the corporation.

Since taking over airport operations in September 2024, NNIC has collaborated with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to identify the aircraft and reach out to their owners.

Notices have been formally issued to owners or their representatives, urging them to confirm ownership and arrange retrieval or proper disposal. NNIC warned that failure to act will result in the removal and disposal of the aircraft according to legal procedures.

The move is part of NNIC’s broader effort to optimize NAIA’s capacity in response to growing passenger volumes and aircraft traffic.
