The NAPOLCOM is preparing to issue a show-cause order to a male party-goer who donned a uniform resembling that of the Philippine National Police during a Halloween celebration.
According to NAPOLCOM vice-chair Ralph Calinisan, the Act of wearing an actual or close-replica police uniform in a party setting is considered disrespectful and may violate Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code, which addresses the illegal use of uniforms and insignias.
In his statement, Calinisan stressed the difference between costumes and official dress:
“Ang uniporme ng PNP ay hindi costume, ito ay simbolo ng dangal, sakripisyo, at serbisyo para sa bayan.”
The NAPOLCOM action comes after an unverified photo of the individual wearing a modified police polo shirt at a Makati party circulated online and drew public backlash. The commission says it will give the individual a chance to respond before deciding whether formal charges will be filed.
