The National Bureau of Investigation-Davao (NBI-11) raided an alleged Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, on Friday, December 13, 2024. Agents seized more than 50 computers and other evidence linked to suspected illegal online gambling operations.
Arrests and Evidence Seized
The NBI executed a search warrant targeting individuals allegedly involved in syndicated estafa and illegal online gambling, in violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
A total of 59 individuals were arrested during the operation, including:
- 55 Chinese nationals
- 3 Malaysians
- 1 Filipino
The confiscated computers were located in two rooms within a two-hectare warehouse, which also included facilities like a kitchen, dining room, and living quarters for the workers.
Next Steps in Investigation
NBI-11 spokesperson Ely Leano explained that investigators are in the process of tagging the seized computer equipment. “We will apply for a Cyber Warrant to allow NBI Digital Forensic experts to examine the contents of these computers to confirm the alleged POGO activities,” he said.
Authorities also discovered an unfinished room with materials for the apparent expansion of the POGO hub.
Government Officials Summoned
The NBI has issued subpoenas to individuals allegedly involved in the operations, including unnamed government officials. Those summoned are expected to appear at the NBI Regional Office next week for questioning.
