The San Miguel Beermen triumphed over the Terrafirma Dyip, 106-88, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The game marked the return of Leo Austria as head coach for the Beermen after years on the sidelines.

San Miguel sealed the victory with a dominant fourth quarter, opening the frame with a 12-1 run to secure an 85-70 lead at the 8:18 mark. The Beermen outscored Terrafirma 33-22 in the final period, notching their second win in the conference.

“I’m so happy to be back and win my first game after long years on the sidelines,” Austria said of his triumphant return. Austria took over the role from Jorge Gallent, who transitioned to a consultant position.

Standout Performances

Torren Jones, San Miguel’s new import, posted a stellar performance with 24 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Meanwhile, June Mar Fajardo delivered a near triple-double with 21 points, 19 rebounds, seven assists, a steal, and a block.

For Terrafirma, import Brandon Walton-Edwards recorded 18 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Local standout Mark Nonoy added 14 points, but the Dyip remained winless at 0-5.
