- Negros Oriental: Canlaon City.
Eruption Details:
- Time: The eruption occurred at 7:04 p.m. on Thursday and lasted approximately two minutes.
- Activity: The volcano spewed fire and ash, generating a plume that rose 2,500 meters above the crater before drifting southwest.
- Hazards Observed:
- Pyroclastic Density Currents (PDCs): Descended the eastern and southeastern slopes within 2 kilometers of the summit.
- Incandescent Ballistics: Glowing projectiles rained around the crater.
- Grassfires: Projectiles caused grassfires on the volcano’s slopes.
- Ashfall: Reported in several hinterland barangays, particularly in La Castellana.
- Seismic Activity: Residents in nearby communities reported a loud explosion and felt ground shaking during the event.
Alert Status:
Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 2. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is currently assessing monitoring parameters to determine if an alert level upgrade is necessary within the next 24 hours.
