Actress Neri Naig was returned to the Pasay City Jail’s female dormitory after her arraignment on Thursday at the Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) was postponed to January 9.

According to a report by Oscar Oida on 24 Oras, the delay came after Naig’s legal team filed a motion to quash in connection with her alleged violation of the Securities Regulation Code. The RTC Branch 111 has instructed the prosecution and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to submit their comments on the motion.

Naig’s legal team refrained from making any public statements following the court proceedings.

Background of the Case

Naig was arrested on November 23 at a mall in Pasay City. She also faces an estafa charge under Presidential Decree 1689, which increases penalties for estafa committed by a syndicate of five or more individuals engaged in illegal activities.

In a social media post, her husband, OPM artist Chito Miranda, defended Naig, asserting that she was merely an endorser and was unaware of any criminal complaint against her.

“She did not receive any letter from the prosecutor—no subpoena, no notice at all. Then suddenly, she was just picked up,” Miranda stated.

Public and Celebrity Support

The case has drawn widespread attention, with several celebrities expressing their support for Naig and Miranda. Chito’s uncle, former Senator Kiko Pangilinan, has also offered legal assistance.

Naig’s legal battle continues to develop, with the January 9 arraignment expected to shed more light on the accusations against her.
