House of Representatives members have confirmed that there are currently no discussions about filing an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, despite her ongoing disputes with Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Quezon 2nd District Representative David “Jay-jay” Suarez addressed the matter on Thursday, stating, “No. Wala pa so far. Tingnan natin kung anong mangyayari” (No. None so far. Let’s see what happens).
Similarly, Antipolo Representative Romeo Acop also said there were no conversations on the matter, adding, “To me? Wala pa (None yet).”
Speaker Romualdez remained silent on the topic when asked during the bicameral conference committee meeting for the 2025 national budget.
Duterte’s Controversial Remarks
Speculation about potential impeachment arose after Duterte’s recent statement during a virtual press conference, where she suggested retaliation if she were assassinated. She remarked:
“I’ve already spoken to someone, so don’t worry about my security. I told that person to kill BBM [President Marcos], Liza Araneta, and Martin Romualdez if I were to be slain.”
Duterte later clarified her statement, claiming it was taken out of context and was not a threat. She emphasized it was meant to highlight risks to her safety.
President Marcos responded strongly, vowing to counter any criminal plots targeting him, saying:
“We cannot let these criminal attempts pass. I will push back against these.”
Tensions Amid House Investigation
The controversy follows a House panel investigation into alleged questionable budget usage by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) during Duterte’s tenure.
Romualdez has denied Duterte’s allegations that he is plotting against her, calling the claims a diversionary tactic to shift focus from the ongoing probe.
As of now, the House members appear to be observing the unfolding situation, with no official moves toward impeachment proceedings.
