Filipino music legend Hajji Alejandro has passed away at the age of 70.
His family confirmed the news on Tuesday in a statement released by his longtime manager, GR Rodis. “We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn this immense loss,” the family expressed, thanking supporters for their love and understanding.
Alejandro had been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer earlier this year. His partner, Alynna Velasquez, previously shared that he underwent surgery in February.
Born Angelito Toledo Alejandro, Hajji rose to fame as a member of the Circus Band and later earned acclaim after winning at the Metro Manila Popular Music Festival with the timeless hit “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika.” He also recorded memorable songs such as “Panakip-Butas” and “Tag-Araw, Tag-Ulan,” among others.
Hajji Alejandro remains a celebrated figure in Original Pilipino Music (OPM), leaving behind a lasting musical legacy.
