More than 57,000 individuals have been approved to participate in local absentee voting (LAV) for the upcoming Eleksyon 2025, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Based on data released Monday, a total of 57,689 LAV applications were granted. This includes 29,030 members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), 23,448 police personnel, 1,005 media workers, and 4,206 employees from government agencies like the Comelec, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Philippine Coast Guard.
LAV is available to those who are unable to vote on election day due to official duties, such as soldiers, police officers, and media practitioners.
Due to requests from various agencies, Comelec extended the LAV registration deadline from March 10 to March 17. It also adjusted the deadline for verifying registrants to April 11, and the transmittal of absentee ballots and related documents to April 27.
Local absentee voting will be held from April 28 to April 30. The Philippine midterm elections are scheduled for May 12, 2025.
