The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has confiscated an estimated ₱1.7 billion worth of suspected shabu after local fishermen discovered several floating sacks off the coast of Pangasinan.

According to the PCG, the first report came from a fisherman in Barangay Balingasay, Agno, who found two sacks containing sealed packs of crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine hydrochloride. As the search continued, more sacks were recovered—two more by another fisherman, one in Barangay Guiguiwanen in Bolinao, another at Cabana Resort in Bani, and one more in Sabangan Boboy, Agno.

Officials attributed the successful seizure to the PCG’s strengthened collaboration with local communities. “This operation highlights the impact of our intensified engagement with fisherfolk to enhance maritime surveillance,” the agency said.

In response, PCG District Northwestern Luzon Commander Captain Mark Larsen Mariano has ordered tighter coastal patrols and urged locals to remain vigilant and report any unusual maritime activities.

The PCG emphasized that the public, especially those at sea, plays a vital role in intercepting illegal drug trafficking attempts and called for continued cooperation.
