The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) has partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to provide aid for 24 infants, known as “POGO babies,” whose parents were involved in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) activities. These children belong to foreign POGO workers currently awaiting deportation following the government’s crackdown on illegal operations.
Essential Support and Sustainable Solutions
PAOCC Executive Director Gilbert Cruz explained that the agency is addressing the immediate needs of these children, including providing milk, diapers, rent assistance, and medical care. “We support around 24 POGO babies, even covering their hospitalization when they get sick,” Cruz said.
To ensure long-term support, the PAOCC is working with the DSWD to offer livelihood programs to the families. Cruz emphasized the importance of sustainable solutions, saying, “Their families need sustainable livelihoods to support the children’s upbringing.”
Deportations Underway
The government has intensified efforts to deport foreign nationals linked to POGO operations. Around 400 individuals are currently under PAOCC custody, with nearly 250 deported in December alone. Additional deportations are expected soon.
Ban on POGOs
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered a total ban on POGOs during his third State of the Nation Address in July 2024. This was formalized in November with Executive Order No. 74, prohibiting POGOs, internet gaming, and other offshore gaming activities in the Philippines.
This joint initiative by PAOCC and DSWD underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of affected children while implementing the POGO ban.
