PBA player John Amores surrendered to police early Thursday morning following his involvement in a shooting incident in Laguna. Amores turned himself in alongside his brother at around 2 a.m., as reported on Unang Balita. He faces a charge of attempted murder and will undergo an inquest proceeding later today.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a heated argument during a basketball game in Barangay Salac between Amores and the victim, Lee Cacalda. The argument escalated after a disagreement over officiating calls, leading to a physical altercation. Amores initially left the scene but later encountered the victim again in Barangay Maytalang, where he allegedly fired a gun at Cacalda, who fortunately was not injured.
Amores surrendered due to concerns for his safety after receiving threats. The gun used in the incident was discarded before turning himself in.
In 2022, Amores was involved in another controversial incident where he attacked a player from the College of Saint Benilde during an NCAA game while playing for Jose Rizal University.
