The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued two individuals stranded about two nautical miles (3.7 kilometers) from Puerto Princesa Port on Thursday.
Coast Guard Station Central Palawan reported that a search and rescue operation was launched following a distress call from the motor yacht Amira. The rescued individuals were Alan John Lowry, 68, a New Zealand national, and Andrea De Ocampo, 23, a Filipino. Both were unharmed, and the yacht sustained no damage.
According to Lowry, their vessel encountered bad weather and fuel shortages after departing from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, en route to Palawan. After refueling, the yacht was escorted back to Puerto Princesa Anchorage.
