The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has addressed an oil leakage at a shipyard in Barangay Polo, New Washington, Aklan.

On Thursday, the PCG reported that the leak originated from the inactive Barge 102 docked at the shipyard. The response involved manual oil collection by the PCG team, while shipyard employees used heavy equipmen to remove oil-contaminated debris.

The shipyard has employed 39 workers to help with the cleanup efforts. The PCG is coordinating with the local government and has requested assistance from the municipal health office to ensure the safety of all responders.

Although the exact type and volume of the oil have not been confirmed, traces of oil sheen have been observed in the river at Barangay Poblacion. During high tide, the PCG and shipyard staff contained the oily mixture and deployed absorbent pads and booms to manage the spill.
