The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Monday that any decision regarding the revocation of Vice President Sara Duterte’s gun permits will depend on the outcome of an ongoing investigation by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
In a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo stated that the probe aims to determine whether the cases filed against Duterte provide grounds to cancel her firearm licenses.
“Let us wait for the completion of the investigation being conducted by the CIDG to determine whether or not these cases filed against her can be used as grounds for the possible revocation or cancellation of her [License to Own and Possess Firearms] and firearm registration,” said Fajardo.
Details about the specific licenses issued to Duterte were not disclosed by Fajardo.
This inquiry comes after Duterte made controversial statements alleging that she ordered the assassination of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and other officials if an alleged plot against her were to succeed. She later clarified that her comments were not threats but a way of emphasizing security concerns.
On November 27, the PNP lodged complaints for direct assault, disobedience, and grave coercion against Duterte and others, related to incidents at the House of Representatives Detention Center and the Veterans Memorial Medical Center involving her chief of staff, Atty. Zuleika Lopez.
