As the 2025 elections approach, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil has issued a reminder to all police personnel to maintain political neutrality. The filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) begins in October, and Marbil emphasized that the PNP must focus on ensuring public safety while staying impartial throughout the election period.

“We are entering a crucial period as candidates begin filing their COCs. I am directing all local police units to remain vigilant, perform their duties efficiently, and ensure public safety,” Marbil said in a statement. He warned that officers found engaging in partisan political activities would face penalties.

“The PNP is tasked with protecting the democratic process, not participating in it,” he added. “Any form of political interference, whether direct or indirect, will be met with swift and decisive action.”

Marbil also called on the public to report any irregularities involving law enforcement personnel during the election period. The PNP’s primary goal, he said, is to ensure peaceful, orderly, and secure elections in 2025.

The filing of COCs for the 2025 midterm elections will take place from October 1 to 8, with the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections scheduled for November 4 to 9. The midterm elections are set for May 12, 2025.
