The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported injuries sustained by several officers during protests commemorating the 161st birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio along CM Recto Avenue in Manila.

In a statement, the PNP condemned what it called “acts of violence” by some demonstrators, which it said led to injuries and disruptions to public order.

One officer suffered an eye injury and was rushed to a Manila hospital for treatment, while others experienced minor abrasions and received first aid from on-site medical teams.

The PNP highlighted its efforts to balance protecting constitutional rights to free speech and peaceful assembly with maintaining public safety and security.

Police Display Restraint Amid Aggression

“Our police officers displayed remarkable restraint and professionalism, even when provoked,” the statement read. “Their mission remains clear: to de-escalate tensions, preserve peace, and protect lives.”

The police force reaffirmed its commitment to upholding peaceful assembly rights but warned against tolerating violence or actions that endanger public safety.

Call for Peaceful Dialogue

The PNP urged all groups to engage in peaceful dialogue, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and unity to maintain harmony. “Our shared goal must always be a society where voices are heard, and mutual respect prevails,” it stated.

As investigations continue, the PNP assured the public that those responsible for inciting violence will face legal consequences.
