A police officer involved in a viral road rage incident in Quezon City has been relieved from duty, according to a report by 24 Oras on Thursday.
The viral video, shared widely on social media, shows a man in casual attire pointing a gun at a cargo truck at the Mindanao Avenue Toll Plaza on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). The video captured the armed man forcing the truck driver to the ground after the driver exited the vehicle, with the recording ending as the man handcuffed the driver.
It was later confirmed that the armed man was a police officer assigned to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Civil Security Group.
Investigations revealed that the altercation began after the truck allegedly hit the policeman’s car and fled, prompting the officer to chase the truck to the toll plaza.
“He has been relieved from his post at SAC Fairview and was ordered to surrender his firearm,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Eudisan Gultiano, spokesperson for the PNP Civil Security Group.
The investigation aims to determine if the arrest of the truck driver followed standard police procedure. Gultiano assured the public that if violations are found, appropriate administrative charges will be filed, and sanctions imposed.
The PNP also urged both officers and the public to remain calm, particularly when involved in road incidents.
