VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis’ health is showing slight improvement as he spends his seventh day at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital recovering from double pneumonia, the Vatican announced Thursday.

Stable Condition, Continuing Work

The 88-year-old pontiff was initially admitted with bronchitis, but his condition worsened into pneumonia, raising global concern. Despite his illness, the Vatican reported that Francis remains stable, fever-free, and able to perform some work.

“The clinical conditions of the Holy Father are slightly improving,” the Vatican statement read. “He received the Eucharist this morning and subsequently devoted himself to work activities.”

Uncertain Angelus Appearance Amid Recovery

Pope Francis has canceled all appointments this week, including a Saturday audience and Sunday mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. It remains uncertain if he will lead the traditional Angelus prayer this Sunday, which he missed last week.

Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni said, “We still don’t know how it will work.”

Continued Concerns Over Pope’s Health

This latest health scare comes after several previous medical issues, including colon and hernia surgery, hip and knee pain, and partial lung removal in his youth due to pleurisy.

“We are all worried about the pope,” said Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, head of Italy’s bishops conference, but assured, “he is on the right path to a full recovery.”

Despite resignation speculations, Pope Francis recently stated that quitting remains a “distant possibility”.
