VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis, 88, is showing signs of improvement as he battles double pneumonia, with the Vatican confirming he no longer requires mechanical ventilation but continues to receive oxygen through a nasal tube.
The pope, who has been hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital since February 14, has maintained stable clinical conditions and did not have a fever on Sunday. However, doctors remain cautious due to the complexity of his condition.
Still Leading the Vatican from Hospital
Despite his illness, Pope Francis has continued his work, meeting with Vatican officials and sending a heartfelt message to well-wishers:
“I feel all your affection and closeness… I feel as if I am ‘carried’ and supported by all God’s people.”
Doctors have not specified when he might be discharged, making this his longest hospital stay since becoming pope in 2013.
