Regine Velasquez, the Philippines’ iconic “Asia’s Songbird,” has gracefully accepted a new chapter in her career, saying she no longer feels the need to compete with younger artists.
Speaking through her TikTok page on Friday, November 22, Velasquez reassured her fans that this transition is not a loss but a realistic and fulfilling stage of her journey.
“I wanted to talk to you about me saying it’s no longer my time. Because for some reason, people get upset when I say that,” she began. “Don’t panic, don’t get upset—it’s not a bad thing. I’m just being realistic because it’s true.”
Reflecting on a Storied Career
At 54 and with nearly 40 years in the industry, Velasquez shared how she spent much of her career proving herself in a competitive field. While she still has the ability to compete, she emphasized that she no longer feels the desire to do so.
“Even if I can still compete, I really don’t want to anymore,” she said, reflecting on her early years as a contestant and her journey to becoming one of the most respected artists in the Philippines.
Now, Velasquez finds joy and purpose in mentoring younger talents, sharing her decades of experience, and inspiring a new generation of artists.
“I love that I inspire other artists. I consider myself as a mentor now,” she said. “I think it would be a waste to take everything I’ve learned in 40 years to the grave. It’s better to share it.”
A Life Beyond Music
Despite her enduring passion for singing, Velasquez said she now treasures her personal life as a wife and mother just as deeply as her artistry.
“Being an artist is in my DNA, but I also have a life—and I love that I have that,” she said.
She expressed gratitude for the opportunities she’s received throughout her career and the balance she now enjoys in her life.
“I just want to be thankful. I’m so thankful that I have a life. I am a wife now and I am a mother, and that’s another side of me that I am enjoying so much,” Velasquez said.
A Grateful Heart
Concluding her message, Velasquez thanked her fans for their unwavering support and reminded everyone to embrace kindness. Her acknowledgment of her place in the industry shows a grounded perspective that continues to inspire her audience.
