The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is actively conducting search and rescue operations for the remaining crew members of the MV Hong Hai, a vessel that capsized off the coast of Rizal, Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday.
In a statement released Thursday, the PCG emphasized its commitment to working with local authorities and stakeholders to locate and rescue the missing individuals.
Out of the 25 crew members—comprising 13 Filipinos and 12 Chinese nationals—14 have been rescued so far, including eight Chinese and six Filipinos. Tragically, two deaths have been confirmed, one of whom is a Chinese national.
The PCG also directed the ship’s owner and operator to initiate the recovery of the vessel through an accredited salvor. An underwater survey has been completed, and the PCG is evaluating factors that may affect the operation, such as underwater cliffs, visibility issues, and weather conditions.
