Rhenz Abando and Dave Ildefonso are set to bolster Strong Group Athletics (SGA) as they aim for redemption at the Dubai International Basketball Championship later this month.

The team confirmed their inclusion on Friday, with head coach Charles Tiu expressing high expectations for the duo’s leadership.

“With Kevin Quiambao, JD Cagulangan, and Jordan Heading now pursuing pro careers, we’re counting on Rhenz and Dave to step up,” Tiu shared in a statement. “Both have shone on major stages before, but this tournament will test their ability to lead under pressure.”

Abando, who parted ways with the Anyang JKJ Red Boosters in May 2024, and Ildefonso, formerly of Suwon KT Sonicboom and now a NorthPort draftee, previously played for SGA during the Jones Cup.

The squad is also welcoming back NCAA Season 100 Mythical Team member Tony Ynot, MVP Allen Liwag, Justine Sanchez, Ange Kouame, and Andray Blatche. NBA veteran DeMarcus Cousins joins the roster as SGA looks to avenge last year’s second-place finish in Dubai.

Jason Brickman, another returning player, will provide steady playmaking for the team.

The Dubai International Basketball Championship will run from January 24 to February 2, 2025.
