Former Vice President Leni Robredo shared on Friday that she welcomed President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in Sorsogon City out of respect for his position.

In a radio interview, Robredo explained that when Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero asked her to join him in welcoming the President, she did not hesitate. “For me, it’s not an issue. In fact, it’s about giving respect to the position,” she said in Filipino during her interview on dzRH.

Robredo emphasized that it felt appropriate to greet the President, who was visiting the Bicol Region, her home turf. She regretted not being able to stay longer due to prior commitments.

The brief encounter between Robredo and Marcos occurred during the inauguration of the Sorsogon Sports Arena, where they exchanged greetings and shook hands. Marcos later expressed optimism over what he described as a “political reconciliation” between the two, who were former rivals in the 2016 and 2022 national elections.
