MANILA — Actress Sam Pinto and her family have extended their stay in Japan as her husband, basketball player Anthony Semerad, continues to recover from dengue fever.

Health Concerns Delay Return to Manila

Pinto shared an update on Instagram Stories on February 12, explaining that Semerad’s platelet count remains dangerously low, making it risky for him to fly due to the potential risk of internal bleeding.

“Supposed to fly back to Manila tomorrow, but [his] platelets are still very low, and scary to fly [because it] might cause internal bleeding. Extending our stay until he’s better,” Pinto wrote.

The couple is currently in Japan with their four-year-old daughter, Mia.

Dengue Diagnosis During Vacation

Semerad was diagnosed with dengue just days into their Japan trip, though Pinto noted that he likely contracted the illness while they were still in Manila.

  • His symptoms included high fever, chills, headaches, joint pain, loss of appetite, and nausea.
  • Initial COVID-19 and influenza tests were negative, but as his condition worsened, doctors confirmed dengue fever.

Family Prioritizing Recovery

Pinto and Semerad, who tied the knot in March 2021, are focusing on Anthony’s recovery before returning home. The family’s extended stay ensures he receives proper medical care before making the trip back to the Philippines.
