Vice President Sara Duterte has announced that reconciliation with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is no longer possible, claiming their relationship has reached the “point of no return.”

In a press briefing on Wednesday, Duterte accused the Marcos camp of targeting her politically.

“I believe we reached the point of no return and it is clear na [that] they are really going after me,” Duterte said. “Gusto nila akong tanggalin sa position.”

She also alleged that House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the President’s cousin, was aiming for the presidency.

Controversial Assassination Remark

Duterte’s statement follows her recent controversial claim that she had hired someone to assassinate Marcos, Romualdez, and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos if her own security was compromised. She later clarified that her remarks were taken “maliciously out of context” and were not meant as a threat but rather to emphasize the dangers she faced.

“They can always try na mag-impeachment…They can always gumastos at magwaldas ng pera ng gobyerno para i-impeach ang vice president…Let’s see. If I get impeached, that is my end. Tapos,” she added.

UniTeam Fallout

The rift between Marcos and Duterte marks a stark reversal of their 2022 “UniTeam” alliance during the presidential elections, which saw them run as a united front.

GMA News Online has reached out to Romualdez for comment on the allegations.
