Siargao, often dubbed the “Surfing Capital of the Philippines,” has secured the 17th spot on Lonely Planet’s list of 22 best places to visit in Asia.
Praised for its iconic surf breaks and thrilling water activities, Siargao has become a haven for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. Lonely Planet highlighted the island’s world-class waves, island-hopping opportunities, kayaking through lush mangrove marshes, and serene aquamarine rock pools.
“Development has brought better roads, new flight routes, and luxurious accommodations, but Siargao still offers an authentic local experience,” Lonely Planet noted. Visitors can immerse themselves in the island’s laid-back charm, from midday hammock naps to sunset margaritas.
This accolade comes on the heels of Siargao being named the top destination in Southeast Asia by Lonely Planet earlier this year.
The tropical paradise also plays host to major surfing competitions, such as the renowned Siargao International Surfing Cup, attracting top athletes from around the globe.
Topping the prestigious list is Luang Prabang in Laos, followed by Bangkok, Thailand; Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia; Hoi An, Vietnam; and Pakistan’s Hunza Valley.
With its natural beauty, vibrant culture, and adventurous offerings, Siargao continues to cement its place as a premier travel destination.
