A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairperson from a barangay in Tuburan, Cebu Province, was arrested after being caught stealing over P30,000 from a staff member of the Mayor’s Office. The 21-year-old suspect was captured on CCTV taking money from the bag of the mayor’s executive assistant on September 26, 2024.
The incident occurred when the victim left their bag unattended at the workstation while stepping out of the office. The suspect, who had come to visit the mayor’s office, seized the opportunity to take the cash. The theft was reported to police at around 9 p.m., and the suspect was arrested later that night. However, only P3,000 was recovered, as the suspect had already spent the rest of the money on shopping and sent some to an unidentified individual.
Police Lt. Col. Glenn Hife, chief of the Tuburan Municipal Police Station, stated that the suspect claimed to be driven by personal problems and financial difficulties. The victim intends to file a theft case against the suspect.
