South Korean actor and singer Seo In Guk has been officially named as the Philippines’ new tourism ambassador, the Department of Tourism (DoT) announced on Friday.
The ceremonial signing of the memorandum of understanding between Seo In Guk and the DoT formalized his role in promoting the Philippines as a prime destination for South Korean travelers.
Seo In Guk to Promote PH Through Digital Content
DoT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco emphasized that Seo In Guk’s global influence and strong connection with Filipino fans make him an ideal representative for Philippine tourism.
“Mr. Seo In Guk’s artistry has cultivated a deep connection with Filipino fans and other people all over the world, making him an ideal representative to share the wonders of the Philippines to the world,” Frasco said.
With South Korea being the top source of tourists in the Philippines, Seo In Guk will play a key role in attracting more visitors through digital campaigns and content.
In 2024 alone, the Philippines welcomed around 1.5 million South Korean tourists, Frasco noted.
Seo In Guk Expresses Gratitude to Filipino Fans
The Korean star expressed his honor and gratitude for being chosen as the country’s tourism ambassador.
“This is really a big responsibility for me. I thank the Filipinos for giving me much love. In order to pay you back, I will make sure you are all going to be satisfied with all my future activities,” Seo In Guk said in Korean.
He is currently in the Philippines filming his upcoming K-drama, “Boyfriend On Demand,” alongside Blackpink’s Jisoo.
Seo In Guk’s Love for Cebu and Filipino Hospitality
Seo In Guk also shared fond memories of his previous visit to Cebu, where he was deeply moved by Filipino warmth and kindness.
“I discovered that Filipinos are very kind and very lovable. Cebu is very beautiful, that is why I loved it,” he said.
The actor recalled his unforgettable experience enjoying lechon while listening to a Filipino song being sung in the background.
“I will never forget the time I was eating lechon. Somebody was singing in Filipino in the background. I was very happy that time,” he added.
One-Year Partnership with DoT
Frasco confirmed that Seo In Guk’s engagement as Philippine tourism ambassador will last for a year as part of the DoT’s broader efforts to boost tourism through pop culture and digital influence.
“This partnership aligns with our broader efforts to diversify our tourism offerings and position the Philippines as a tourism powerhouse,” Frasco stated.
With Korean entertainment’s massive influence worldwide, Seo In Guk’s role is expected to further strengthen ties between the Philippines and South Korea in the tourism sector.
