Speaker Martin Romualdez pledged on Monday to allocate sufficient funding for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) under the proposed P6.352 trillion national budget for 2025 to support its modernization and enhance its capabilities.
Romualdez, a cousin of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., made this commitment during the Philippine Air Force’s 77th anniversary celebration.
“We are committed to providing the necessary legislative support to ensure that the modernization programs and welfare initiatives for our armed forces are fully funded and effectively implemented,” Romualdez stated.
“We will continue to work on policies that enhance our defense capabilities, improve the conditions of service for our soldiers, and ensure that the Philippines remains safe and secure,” he added.
Romualdez emphasized the need for a dynamic, robust, and forward-looking defense system, noting that the Marcos administration is focused on providing advanced aircraft, cutting-edge radar systems, and state-of-the-art equipment.
“These advancements are not merely for show. They are essential tools for our personnel to execute their mandate with greater efficiency. They are a testament to our unwavering resolve to safeguard our nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Romualdez said.
He also highlighted the administration’s commitment to the welfare of the Armed Forces and their families, ensuring they receive healthcare and other benefits.
“The bravery and gallantry of our personnel in protecting our territory and sovereign rights cannot be overstated. Your actions are a vital line of defense against those who seek to undermine our nation’s peace and security,” Romualdez noted.
“Your swift and efficient actions during calamities have also saved countless lives and provided critical support to communities in distress. Rest assured, the administration and the Filipino people stand firmly behind you, ready to support and uplift you as you continue to protect and serve our country,” he concluded.
