San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is expected to sit out the remainder of the 2024-25 NBA season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right shoulder, the team announced Thursday.

Injury Discovered After All-Star Break

The 21-year-old French phenom returned to San Antonio following the NBA All-Star Game in San Francisco, where his condition was detected.

“Wembanyama is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 regular season,” the Spurs’ statement read. “The team will provide updates as appropriate.”

A Standout Rookie Campaign Cut Short

Selected first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, Wembanyama has lived up to the hype, leading the Spurs with an impressive 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and an NBA-best 3.8 blocks per game this season.

His absence is a huge blow to San Antonio, which has been building around his generational talent.

Spurs Face Tough Road Ahead

With Wembanyama sidelined, the Spurs will have to adjust their lineup and look to develop younger players as they navigate the rest of the season without their star rookie.
