Golden State Warriors’ icon Stephen Curry has been honored with the NBA Clutch Player of the Year Award, securing this recognition for his remarkable ability to perform under pressure. The league disclosed this achievement on Thursday, noting Curry’s pivotal role during critical game moments.

The NBA Clutch Player of the Year Award, now in its second year, was first awarded to De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings. This accolade is named after Jerry West and celebrates the player who consistently excels in clutch situations—those nail-biting final minutes that often determine the game’s outcome.

Curry triumphed over strong competition from Chicago Bulls’ DeMar DeRozan by amassing 298 points through the voting system, which includes 45 first-place votes. DeRozan was a close second with 272 points. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Oklahoma City Thunder also featured prominently in the race, securing third place.

This season, Curry showcased his clutch prowess by leading the NBA with 189 points scored in the defined clutch situations. These are the high-stakes moments at the tail end of games, with Curry shooting impressively from the field (49.6%), beyond the arc (45.7%), and from the free-throw line (95.1%).

Despite a stellar individual season with an average of 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, Curry and the Warriors concluded the season earlier than expected, failing to advance beyond the Western Conference play-in round. However, this award highlights Curry’s personal achievements and his critical role as a clutch performer, further solidifying his legacy as one of basketball’s greats.
