Strong Group Athletics (SGA) has secured a significant boost ahead of their campaign in the 43rd William Jones Cup next month with the addition of high-flying forward Rhenz Abando.
Abando recently concluded his stint with the Anyang JKJ Red Boosters in the Korean Basketball League (KBL). The 6-foot-2 winger will now join an already star-studded SGA roster that includes Kiefer Ravena, Chris McCullough, Jordan Heading, Ange Kouame, RJ Abarrientos, and Caelan Tiongson.
Excitement from the Coach
SGA head coach Charles Tiu is particularly enthusiastic about coaching Abando, having previously faced him as an opponent in the NCAA.
“I’m happy to have the opportunity to finally coach Rhenz. I’ve coached against him in the past, and I think he’s a great player,” said Tiu. “He gives us a lot of athleticism and firepower.”
Abando’s Enthusiasm
Abando also expressed his excitement about joining SGA and playing under Coach Tiu. “Looking forward din ako to be under Coach Charles kasi new system at alam kong may matutunan ako sa kanya,” he said, highlighting his eagerness to learn and adapt to a new system.
Additional Insights
The inclusion of Abando is expected to bring a dynamic edge to the team, complementing the existing talent and bolstering SGA’s prospects in the upcoming Jones Cup.
