Talisay City Cebu Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas files his certificate of candidacy for congressman in Cebu’s First Congressional District for the 2022 local and national polls.

The 36 year-old politician will be replacing his grandfather, incumbent Representative Eduardo “Eddigul” Gullas, who will be retiring after more than 50 years as a public servant.

“I know a lot of people, especially my supporters in our City, might be disappointed with my decision but I assure you, my dedication to provide “Aksyon Agad” services will not die as I seek the congressional seat. In fact, mas mopadayon ang atong “Aksyon Agad” brand and mo-expand pa siya sa tibuok distrito,” the mayor said in his Facebook post.

The mayor also pray that his constituents will continue to support him as he take on this new challenge.

“I may never know what lies ahead but I firmly believe that the answer to every problem lies in courageously moving forward with faith,” the mayor added.

Samsam has previously served as congressman in 2013 to 2019 in the same district. At age 28, he became the youngest member of the 16th Congress of the Philippines.

Despite being eligible to run as congressman in 2019, he run as Talisay City mayor, a position that was previously held by his grandfather, who ran for congress at that time and won. (By: April Therese Tan)
