In Quezon City, three individuals were apprehended in connection to an alleged parcel snatching scheme, as reported by James Agustin on Unang Balita this Wednesday. The incident involved one of the suspects ordering and arranging the delivery of a perfume, only to seize the package from the delivery rider and declare a hold-up upon its arrival.

CCTV footage captured a man engaging in a phone conversation while walking in a part of Barangay UP Campus. Moments later, he was seen fleeing the scene. In another snippet of the footage, the same individual was spotted mounting a waiting motorcycle, noticeably clutching something in his left hand. Two other men on a separate motorcycle joined him in the escape.

According to the police, the group ambushed a delivery rider, targeting a perfume package. Police Lieutenant Colonel Ferdinand Casiano, chief of Anonas Police Station, recounted the ordeal, “Someone booked a parcel worth P3,000 with him. So the delivery rider went to the area. Upon his arrival, a group was waiting to ambush him.”

“They snatched the parcel from him, declaring a hold-up,” he added.

The police later arrested three out of the four suspects. Investigations revealed that the group had previously been involved in similar snatching incidents, marking their third involvement in such parcel snatching schemes. Casiano explained their modus operandi, “Once the item is delivered, they intimidate the delivery rider, seize the parcel without payment. These parcels are meant to be cash on delivery, but no actual payment occurs. Instead, they flee with the parcel.”

Although the parcel was not recovered, the motorcycles used by the suspects were seized. Two of the suspects had prior imprisonment records for drug-related offenses, while another had a history of theft charges.

The three are now facing charges under the Robbery in Relation to the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act. Meanwhile, the police continue their search for the remaining suspect.
