A 6-year-old girl tragically lost her life on Christmas Day after an SUV collided with her family’s motorcycle in Naga, Cebu. The incident occurred as the family was out to purchase Christmas gifts.

According to a report by John Consulta for State of the Nation, the impact of the collision sent the family flying several meters from their motorcycle.

The girl’s parents survived the crash, but her father remains in critical condition. “My granddaughter was severely injured, and it seemed her body was crushed after they were hit,” said Consine Delute, the girl’s grandfather, in the local language.

Legal Actions to Be Taken

The victim’s family plans to press charges against the 21-year-old SUV driver, who admitted to falling asleep at the wheel. He was returning from his mother’s wake and burial when the accident occurred. The driver expressed remorse, saying in the vernacular, “I’m very sorry, I did not mean it.”

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury, and damage to property are being prepared against him.

Despite the severity of the crash, all passengers in the SUV were unharmed as they, too, were asleep at the time of the collision.

This incident highlights the devastating consequences of driving while fatigued.
