President-elect Donald Trump acknowledged a congratulatory SMS from Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., following Trump’s successful bid for a return to the White House. Philippine Ambassador to the U.S., Jose Manuel Romualdez, confirmed that Marcos’ message received a prompt acknowledgment from Trump.

“PBBM congratulated President Trump via SMS and was acknowledged with thanks,” Romualdez shared with GMA News Online.

Asked whether Marcos would attend Trump’s inauguration, Romualdez indicated it remains unclear if Trump’s team will extend invitations to foreign leaders.

In his formal congratulatory statement on Wednesday, Marcos expressed optimism about continuing the U.S.-Philippines partnership under Trump’s leadership. “President Trump has won, and the American people triumphed,” Marcos remarked, adding that he looks forward to collaborating on a variety of initiatives beneficial to both nations.

Marcos emphasized the strength of the Philippines-U.S. alliance, describing it as an “unshakeable partnership” rooted in shared values of freedom and democracy. “This is a durable partnership the Philippines is fully committed to,” he added.

Trump, 78, won the presidency with 279 electoral votes over Vice President Kamala Harris’ 223, with some states still pending final counts.
