In a bold move to spark conversation about the future of work, Channel 4 in the UK aired a new episode of its long-running current affairs series Dispatches entitled “Will AI Take My Job?”. The twist: the programme’s on-screen host, “Aisha Gaban”, was completely AI-generated.

Throughout the episode, Aisha appeared to report from various locations, narrating how artificial intelligence is transforming workplaces across industries. It was only revealed near the end that the presenter was not a real human — her voice and image were created entirely by AI.

The stunt is described as a British television first, and it was used not primarily to replace human presenters, but to raise questions about trust, authenticity and how quickly technology is blurring lines we once took for granted.

However, Channel 4 emphasised that this will not become a regular approach. Louisa Compton, the network’s head of news and current affairs, stressed that their priority remains “premium, fact-checked, duly impartial and trusted journalism — something AI is not capable of doing.”

As AI tools become increasingly accessible and sophisticated, the broadcast serves as a reminder: even though technology can mimic human appearance or speech, it doesn’t replace the experience, context‐based judgement and responsibility of professional journalists.
