The United States has pledged an additional US$1.5 million to support the Philippines in its recovery from the devastation caused by Typhoons Tino (Kalmaegi) and Uwan (Fung-wong).

This brings America’s total disaster-relief commitment to US$2.5 million for the overlapping crises.

The additional funds will be used for critical needs such as logistics, emergency shelter, water and sanitation services, and managing evacuation centers.

US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson said the boost underscores the “deep and enduring ties” between the US and the Philippines — especially in times of crisis.

During a joint visit with Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. to Clark Air Base, both sides inspected ongoing airlift operations of relief packages, including family food packs, headed to typhoon-hit areas. Carlson also praised the “tight coordination” between US and Philippine responders as they work together to provide rapid humanitarian assistance.
